Cannabis 101: Psychiatric Risks vs Benefits

Jerome Sarris is an NHMRC Clinical Research Fellow and Professor of Integrative Mental Health and the Healthy Minds Research Stream at NICM Health Research Institute, Western Sydney University. He also holds an honorary Principal Research Fellow appointment at Melbourne University, Department of Psychiatry. 

Prof Sarris has nearly 30 years experience in the field, moving from prior clinical practice to academic work, completing a doctorate at The University of Melbourne, Department of Psychiatry; The Centre for Human Psychopharmacology (SUT); and The Depression Clinical & Research Program at Harvard Medical School (MGH). He has a specialised expertise in conducting double-blind placebo-controlled trials, and has a particular interest in psychotropic plant medicine research (e.g. psychedelic medicines, kava, and medicinal cannabinoid therapies). He is listed as the 3rd highest globally-ranked academic expert on plant-based medicines, and the highest ranked researcher in this field in Australia (Expertscape).
